Rotate Jack Motor
Hello - I can't seem to find any related forum discussions about rotating the jack motor 90 degrees in the new Globetrotters. I should have taken a picture to attach. When I have my F250 connected to the trailer the tailgate will not open completely. I did some measurements and it appears if I'm able to rotate the motor housing 90 degrees I would obtain enough clearance to completely lower the tailgate, which would be great for trips where I don't disconnect overnight and need something out of the back of the truck.
When the trailer was at the dealer for other work they said it couldn't be done, not sure if that was an accurate statement.
Any advice would be great.

Hmmm. Can you post a pic of your jack head? Mine is 2014, they change them from year to year at times but should be similar. On the ones I've seen rotated (including mine) there are three screws (allen heads usually) at the base of the jack head (a sleeve/ring that holds the head in position). Loosen those and you should be able to rotate the head.

The Barker jacks are the ones that can be rotated. Airstream stopped using them a few years ago.
I'm not sure but the 'newer' (to Airstream) Attwood's or Lippert, same jack different distributer, cannot be rotated.

Attached is the picture. From the previous post it appears the one I have, Lippert can't be rotated. Thanks for the feedback.

There's another way, which I have only read about. I have a Barker, so no actual experience.
Drill new holes at the jack base-to-tongue mounting plate and rotate the whole assembly 90*. It takes some careful measurements and geometry to get the holes right, but doable.

Thanks. I'll think I'll leave it alone for now. I would think drilling additional holes in the tongue may weaken the support, not sure but don't want to take that chance.
Again thanks for all the forum support!

Not in the tongue. In the Jack leg flange.

I lucked out. The 2 1/2 drop hitch they used for my blue ox sticks out enough I can open my tailgate.

You can rotate this one
Ultra-Fab Phoenix 4000 lb. Tongue Jack
Replaced mine 3 years ago, and have been very happy with the performance. It can be rotated, via the extra holes provided. Turned mine 90 degrees so my tailgate would open. It also comes with both positive and negative cables, so no need to rely on grounding to the frame.

Different trucks have different truck beds, and therefore, different tailgate hights.
I did a post specifically addressing how to rotate a jack by drilling new holes.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f457...ys-196460.html
It should take about an hour if you're prepared.
