Replacing Foot of Hitch With a Caster

Anyone with experience doing that, and what is the use?

I did it in conjunction with adding a front hitch to my truck. I got the 3000# caster at HF. I would back the trailer into my driveway, put on the caster, disconnect, turn the truck around and re-hitch with the front hitch and then I could see what I was doing and control the path of the truck when turning the trailer the tight turn into its parking spot. I would put the foot down just enough to take some of the load off of the front suspension.

Be very careful...I had a boat almost run me over using a wheel on the jack. Driveway had just enough slope.

Personally I would never put one on my Airstream.

I have one on a 7400# boat and trailer combination. Getting the caster properly blocked before totally disconnecting from the TV may be needed fro time to time.

Useful

I put one on my FC so I could move it around in the garage. It has a handy foot brake.

If the trailer is light enough to be moved by hand the caster is a good idea. Otherwise, I'm not so sure.

I have casters on my motorcycle and jet ski trailer, but not the Airstream.
