power jack not working
Hi,
I have a 2019 Flying Cloud 28RB. My power jack Lippert Permier Performance 4000 lbs) is not working, likely an issue with no power as neither the light or the jack itself is working. I started by checking the easy things:
- Batteries fully charged at 12.8V (checked by multimeter)
- Checked the 30A fuse for jack, it tested fine. Also tested with new fuse just to make sure
I then followed the cord and saw that it had been pinched under the propane tank cover and cut, which appears to be a somewhat common thing. I cut and spliced that wire back together, but still no power.
I can't seem to figure out how the motor to the jack itself is ground. The wire that is ground to the frame itself only runs through the light switch and the light bulb.
When I put my multimeter probes on the power going in to light switch and the ground connect to frame, I don't get a reading. But if I move the negative probe from the ground on frame over to negative terminal on battery, I do get a good reading.
I am far from an electrician, is there anything else I can check to figure this out? Thanks!

If you say the fuse is good and the batteries are good is it possible that the connection from the jack to the truck is either loose or dirty. Also my batteries are fully charged at 13.7 volts.
Let me start over the other day when I went to pick up my 2012 AS I had a similar problem. My jack would not work but my batteries were very low from sitting out and it was a cold winter. I also checked the fuse to insured. It had not popped. it was fine. I then hooked the jack cable to the truck and let it run a little. I was able to get the jack to work however I had to wriggle the connections because they were slightly corroded.

Thanks for your reply. This has always been more than enough of a charge for my jack, everything else on DC in trailer is running fine. I did plug in to truck and let it run for quite a while with no luck. It is possible what you say is true, but probably unlikely as brake lights, turn signals, etc all working.

A lead acid battery is fully charged at 12.8 volts or less, if a lead acid battery reads more then 12.8 volts either it is on charge(even a float charge) or recently stopped charging.(Maybe Urnmor has lithium?)
The jack is supposed to be connected to negative by being bolted to the trailer. It is easy for some corrosion to block that connection.

id you look at the toggle switches? i took apart the top of the jack to make sure all the connections were not broken or corroded as those toggle switches do go bad. I did replace mine. I also assume you can hand crank the jack.

ok..mine does this too
my jack is mouted to aframe..and thats the jacks earth!
give the mast of jack a couple of swift kicks!...
mine statted working again!
over time oxide bulids up between bolts and a frame itself causing occasional bad earth
kick it and smash with wd40
see if that works

Battery on a Load?
Just wondering what your battery measures voltage-wise when a load is applied?
Does this happen when plugged into shore AC?
Does this happen to all four of your power jacks? I'm not familiar with the power jacks but upgrading to them real soon.

With him saying "power jack Lippert Permier Performance 4000 lbs" and that the cord "had been pinched under the propane tank cover and cut". That would mean that he meant power tongue jack, not stabilizer jacks.
Still checking voltage under load is a good idea. I have had batteries that read fully charged, then dead with a very small load.

Sorry I should have clarified. Yes this is tongue jack. These are brand new batteries that are fully charged so I know this is not the issue. I’m suspecting it is an issue with the ground as baggs is suggesting.

Were you able to fix your jack problem and if so how did you do it?
Thanks

A little late...
The ground source for the power jack is the casing and the 3 bolts holding same to the A-frame. Remove the bolts, clean the corrosion from all areas, and re-insert the bolts through the base. Occasionally a bit of paint will need to be scrapped to reveal corrosion creep under the edges.

Just remember if the jack is supporting the tongue it is holding it up by those bolts so find a different way to support it. Jack stands or tow vehicle would be good choices.

I haven't been able to get it working yet. I disconnected and reconnected the ground wire attached to the jack, but have not yet removed the bolts that connect the jack to the a-frame itself as suggested in the most recent reply. I plan to try this over the weekend and will report back here.

Another option even though it might be out of warranty is to call the manufacturer. Also did you have. A chance to check your toggle switches to see if they have gogone bad
Thank you for your response

Electric jack not working
My electric jack did not work. Removed bolts and cleaned area around bolt holes, bolts, and washers with drill and wire brush attachment. Has worked fine since.

This may not be the case with your year of AS, but in ours, the power from the batteries actually goes inside the unit to a breaker panel and then back out to the jack. I am assuming that in your case, you can trace the line (hot) wire directly from the battery to the jack?

If it were me I would, using a multi meter, check continuity between the jack mounting plate and the Trailer. If that checks then I would remove the housing cover and using a meter check the input side of the switch for power. If that checks I would activate the toggle switch and check for power on the outboard side of the switch. Link to manual https://lci-support-doc.s3.amazonaws...cd_0001561.pdf

Sorry not yet. Was going to look at it last weekend, but ended up with a bad water heater leak after de-winterizing that I had to look at instead.
This weekend I'm going to remove the jack from the aframe and clean the bolts as recommended earlier in the thread. I will report back here. If that doesn't work I'm giving up and just waiting until I have to take it in to dealership for something else given it is under warranty. I do fortunately still have the manual jack crank so it is manageable, just a bit of an annoyance to have to use.
