One more on power Jacks

I have read the many threads on power jacks and the preferred one seems to be the Husky super brute. My question is why this one over the Barker Hi Power 3500. I like the Barker because it is made in the US however I want to be sure it will work on my 2012 25ft flying cloud. Pros and cons on both is greatly appreciated

I installed a Husky HB4500 December 2012. To this day it goes UP/DOWN powerfully and importantly every time. No repairs to date. What caught my attention was the use of a ball screw, reduces friction and it's quieter than the old jack which only lasted 5 years with switch repairs. And the Husky, if you needed to use manual operation tools it's done w/o removing the power head.

I have a Super Brute on order and arriving this week. My reasons for picking it are (in no order): Higher load capacity will hopefully mean less stress on the components and a longer life; ball screw drive system; we think the remote will be nice when we move back to the rainy northwest; better lighting; it's the choice of many trusted voices here on the forum; and the color of the Super Brute should look awesome with the Airstream.

I got one for xmas. Will be installing it when I get the trailer out of hibernation. It was on my list for all the same reasons stated already.

My existing factory jack is about 12 years old and my only gripe is that it shorts out after fully retracting....always has, even after a factory service visit, but also that if that one fateful day it goes south, manually cranking would be a major PITA.

Never considered a remote for a power jack, so looking forward to seeing how/if I use it.

I installed one on my 2012 FB to replace the factory Barker which sounded like it was straining. I got the 4500# without the remote from Costco. I drilled new holes to turn it sideways to allow my tailgate to open with a short stinger. I also relocated the one LED light to the side without the light one it was turned 90 degrees.

The biggest positive...no fiber spur gears..a ball bearing worm drive, a bit slower but a much better design.
The remote control is also a nice perk.

Just installed the Husky SB 5000 with remote a month ago. Installed it sideways to accommodate my 3-flag pole holder. I had to drill 3 new holes to make it happen. I love the quietness of its operation and the bright LED lights compared to the original Barker that’s loud. Performed well on our first trip for the season. Ahh, the remote...sure is a plus.

I'd add to shop around, Amazon doesn't have the best price and e-trailer SURE doesn't have the best price. I got mine at RVUpgrade store. But the price is always moving.
In reality, why not get the Husky for almost the same price as the others? I thought the remote was gimmicky, until I sat inside and leveled front to back while sitting at the table enjoying an adult beverage.

I just received a Husky 82022 and I'm waiting anxiously to put it on. The main reason we bought it is that the jack that came from the AS factory is SO INCREDIBLY LOUD! I'm hopeful that the ball screw on the Husky lives up to the hype and is whisper quiet.

I second this notion. I looked at the Husky on Amazon. It was being sold by a place called RV & Auto Parts through Amazon. I went to the seller's website and got a better price, no sales tax, and free shipping.

Thank you for al of your replies. I am leaning towards the Husky super brute however I am concerned if the tailgate on my F250 will open without having to turnt it sideways. Does anyone know the answer to this? Thank you

I installed the Husky super brute sideways on my 16’ Bambi to accommodate my 2020 F150 tailgate and I am able to lower the tailgate if the vehicles are in a straight and level line.

If you never want to see a post about power jacks . Please everyone go by the Bigfoot hydraulics for Airstream . And never talk about having problems again.

Just a follow up. First let me say thank you for all of the information and advice. I did decide to purchase the Husky Super brute 5000. Is it more then I need most likely how the cost differential is not significant for the extra lifting power.

One of the best pies of advice was to shop around as prices of jacks ar all over the map and if you are retired military and deal direct ask for a military discount.

Now waiting on delivery and then I will install.

I took advise and replaced my broken jack on my 25' flying cloud with a Husky Super Brute. With my old jack 10 years old, the bolts were frozen, and even with a breaker bar I was starting to round the head. Went an bought bolt extractor sockets - and WOW where have these been all my life. Bolts came off without much trouble!!! Love the Husky and remotes are such a nice touch. Thanks to everybody for their opinions, glad i went with the Husky.
