New Tongue Jack for Lucy

Lucy just turned seven years old a few days ago. We have now spent over 700 nights in her and have towed her almost 70,000 miles.

We are considering replacing her tongue jack. Her OEM tongue jack is still operating. We are thinking that it would be good to replace it at this point before we find ourselves hand cranking it.

We are looking for recommendations from the members for a high quality replacement tongue jack.

Thanks, Brian

My original tongue jack did not last as long as yours. I'd rather not discuss why. Sensitive topic. Anyway, I have grown rather fond of the remote on the replacement Husky Super Brute. I suspect the jack is also super overkill for my trailer. It moves a bit slower than the original jack. I had to shorten the removable foot because it was a bit too long. It is a very tight fit with the propane covers. But I'd still buy it again if I had it to do over.

There was a recent thread about Husky failures. No brand is immune.

By the way, I'm sorry to hear Lucy got lice.

A month ago I would have recommended the Husky Super Brute 5000
There's been a flurry of reported problems, including me. My up/down switch gets baulky and wants to only go down. The cure is to go down and then flip to up. I wonder if using the remote bypasses the problem (or gives you an option)
I tried it....but I think my batteries were down and so the results were tainted.

To be honest, I don't think any are clearly superior, and if I were to get another, it would be another Husky Super Brute. Roll the dice.
There's a lot of positives!

we went with the Lippert 3500# Power Tongue Jack basically because you can turn the jack head easily which allow us to drop the tailgate of our F-150 when hitched. Works great, goes up and down, what more can you ask for :-)

I second the Husky Super Brute 82022. Installed in May and no problems so far. I'm loving the remote control; I put a bubble level on the belt line mid-way along the trailer and level with the remote. No muss, no fuss. The Husky is so much quieter than the one that came with the trailer.

Baker Built

I turned our jack head also it gave our 250 the needed tailgate clearance. Ours jack is a stock ( Baker Built ) that Airstream switched to . So far so good. I had a few questions on operation and strength, the Baker factory service picked up the phone when I called. That was a plus.

I remember now we did have one problem. The battery on one of the remotes was dead on arrival. And it's some weird size that you can't find anywhere except online.

Hint: don't carry the remote in your pocket. It can lead to exciting adjustments!

Some manufacturers are getting smart and putting in a second set of holes for turning the head.
However, it's pretty easy to make new holes. I did it here:

BTW, you can see I turned it to the curbside. Notice the black plug near the bottom. It's where a small tool goes to release the motor if you need to manually crank it. If you turn it street side, you'll have to remove the tank cover to access that brake.

After due consideration and weighing all of the options, I have decided to go with the Husky Super Brute 82022. This unit just had a price reduction on Amazon. I just ordered one @ $270.

I will report on the installation and operation on Lucy in the near future.

Following this thread, because mine is also over 7-years old and is starting to make funny sounds when it's in the hot sun.
