Interesting tongue jack issue.

My front jack had always worked on AC, battery and pluged in to TV. Today it decided to only work when the umbilical cord was plugged into TV. The jack light works so it is getting battery power when not plugged into TV.
Anyone ever seen this phenomenon?

Check your batteries. I had that issue and my batteries were ready for replacement [emoji20]

Hi

Most likely, your batteries are in trouble. Could be bum batteries, could simply be that they need a charge. If they also don't work on AC, then your charger / converter may have an issue (and not be charging the batteries).

Bottom line - you have some troubleshooting to do ...

Basic troubleshooting 101. The first thing I did was check the batteries condition and all the connections. They are good.

Step back and regroup. Let the batteries sit for a while and retested. I have 2-6 volt Trojen batteries. Now showing 11.75 volts (not good). Plugged AC back in and voltage did not change. Reset all breakers on the converter and it went to 14.47 output. Battery voltage did not increase. First stop tomorrow might just be for new batteries. Need to check my battery warranty paperwork. Leaving tomorrow morning and I will be doing some dry camping on my way to Escanaba. Going to have to have reliable batteries.

Hi

Ummm ..... errrr ..... converter went to 14.47V, battery voltage did not increase .... hmmm ... Should not the battery voltage be identical to the converter output voltage?

Sounds like something that should be connected is not connected.

Check use/store switch setting. Needs to be in 'use' to charge batteries...

A shot in the dark here, is the Battery Disconnect Switch in USE and is the relay actually working? In the STORE position the batteries would indicate one voltage and the converter another voltage because they are isolated from each other. Meantime, the batteries are not being recharged by the converter.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You guys just saved me $300. The battery use/store switch was in the store position. I must of brain farted because I always leave the switch in the use position.

As a relative newbie it is somewhat reassuring to see even the seasoned experts have an occasional lapse. And it also is comforting to see the benefit (in this case $300 plus all of us learning something) this community offers to everyone.

Interesting tongue jack issue.

The problem with use/store switch is that the red light only indicates there is 12 volt power. There is no way to make it do anything else, by design.

If the AS is plugged into shore power, the converter lights the light, but batteries do not charge if the relay was left in 'store'

Spent the day on the road and all is well. Chalk it up to drivers error, brain fart or whatever. It was such a simple fix that I was blind. If it ever happens again I will turn in my happy Airstream owners card.

Chalk it up to an "experience overloaded" brain...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...
