Electric Jack makes clacking sound
I don't have the manual in front of me as I write these words BUT,
my '76 Airstream has a battery powered lift in the front for leveling my A/S and putting on the truck.
I took her to a barn for winter storage and had raised the lift almost all the way up. When I arrived and attempted to lower the jack all I got was a clack clack clack clack sound. There was power but it seemed like the gears were not catching. We used a floor jack to get her off my truck.
When Spring arrives and I go to get her out of storage what should I do? Is there a repair remedy? I did grease the unit earlier in the year.
Your words of experience are welcomed here.
Thanks,
Ken in MN

When the jack is fully extended or lowered you will get a clicking sound. That is the built in safety that releases the motor before it comes to the limit of the jack.
Assuming this is the condition you should be able to move the jack in the other direction by just choosing the other direction on the switch.
If the jack clicks in both direction from its current height it may be jammed against the stop inside the jack tube. If this is the case remove the top cover and use the manual handle to release the jam. Once released you should be able to test it by using the motor while the cover is off.
If the jack was jammed against the stop in the tube you will need to reset the limit switch in the motor to prevent this from happening again.

My power tongue jack makes a simular noise going in either direction at any point in it's travel. I have taken the head off and inspected the gears, and found no obvious problems. Anyone have ideas on that one?

I had that happen one time with my power jack. I took some weight off of it by using an automotive jack and then it worked fine.

If the jack is Clicking while in the normal travel range I would think there is excessive load in the jack tube itself. That may be from rust or a bent shaft.
I would check with the manufacture of the jack. As a general rule they do not want you to lube the shaft because a reduction in friction can cause the jack to spin down when not expected.
