DC power source for new power hitch jack

I have 2020 Airstream Basecamp and want to install an electric power jack but need a DC power source to connect it to. I do not see a DC buss bar on the outside of the Basecamp anywhere so I guess I need to find a way to get the cable from the outside in the front to the inside where the battery connections are located. Any recommendations on best place to penetrate the shell with a 12 gauge wire?

Can you just tee into the 12v power supply on the 7-way umbilical?

On our BC 16 I ran a wire in through the lower fridge vent and into the battery compartment to that bus bar. Some jacks pull high amps so make sure your 7-way wiring can handle that if you go that route.

That sounds good. The fridge vents to the outside someplace? Is it easy to find?

I looked at just splicing into the 12v wire for the 7way plug but the 7way wires are all sealed inside a rather hefty all weather cable that I would rather not cut into if possible.

I had the dealer install our electric jack, and they routed the cable through the Zamp Solar plug outlet. While I could have done this myself, they already had the trailer for another issue to fix (minor issue), while there, I just had them install this and a backup camera.

Very helpful idea. Thanks for the pic. Although this is a little off topic for this thread, I'm curious which back-up camera you had installed - and how it's working?

Thayne,
I purchased DoHonest License Plate camera, inexpensive, and should have been really easy to install. You pull off one of the lights and tie into the wires. However, when I started to do this, I found that there was no electricity going to these lights, which is why I actually had the airstream in for service, so they ultimately ended up installing it for me.

I haven't gotten used to it completely yet, being at such a low level, it's more difficult to determine your distance to whatever you might bump into while backing up, than say one that is mounted above the door and pointing down. However, I love being able to use it as a rear view while driving, super helpful in that regard.

Regards,
Stephen
