Caravel Lift

Has anyone lifted a 2022 22’ caravel. I’m told for my axle to use the Dexter lift kit # K71-724-02. Love to hear from anyone who has done the lift successfully.

It should be noted that I called Jackson Center for the axel Serial# and Dexter provided me with the kit corresponding to the serial number. Fine but the kit number is for a tandem axel. Something is wonky.

Single Axle Lift Kit

I did a lift kit on our 76 Excella 500. Pretty simple to do, and it takes a few hours of laying on the ground. I used to see kits for single axles and the normal dual axle kits. People in your situation buy the dual kit and sell the other half for a little money back on the dual kit. Look around and you should find either a factory single or a private sale single. Look at the attached link to eBay.
Good Luck!

Lift Kit

Thanks dspchef. I actually called Dexter and repeated what you said. If you canít trust Dexter armed with the serial number who can you trust? Dennis

Wish I could help: the dealership put the Dexter lift on our single-axle Flying Cloud for us, I never had the part number (maybe it’s sold for duals, and you just end up w/ leftovers for singles?).

Single Kits Available

There are some options out there.

https://www.recpro.com/recpro-traile...t-made-in-usa/

and

https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lea.../LC382741.html

That one is for square torsion axles.

I did a lift in my 2019 Sport 22FB. I was able to purchase 1/2 a kit from my dealer. I think it was a Dexter #11 kit or something like that. I installed it myself and it was straightforward but you will need a few jack stands a I also had a couple of jacks to work the axle back into position. Just don't lay under the jacked trailer without some serious blocks holding it up if it falls off the jacks. You don't want to get squished!

I installed a lift kit on my 22' Bambi Sport in my driveway which was doable if you have access to proper jack stands, floor jack, sockets/wrenches and breaker bar sets. Others have also recommended an impact wrench, but I did mine with only manual tools. As I recall, it took like 3-4 hours. It is a fair amount of effort and takes a bit of muscle and leverage while laying on your back to install, so think about hiring it out if you don't feel up to that.

With respect to the lift kit, my research at the time indicated that while the Dexter kit was the right model for the particular axle in my Bambi, for whatever reason Dexter only sells the lift kit in a two-axle package. The only option was to buy the kit and sell the other half to someone else, which is what I did.

This I guess is a marketing decision: sell as a single kit and those with dual axles can buy two, or sell a dual-axle kit and let those of us with single-axle trailers just figure it out. I am guessing there are probably more dual axle trailers on the road, so maybe this works for Dexter.

I do highly recommend the lift if you travel on any forest or BLM roads, and it probably has saved me from scraping on many driveways entrances as well.

Good luck with your installation.

Lifting Caravel

I had the dealer install Dexter lifts on our 2022 22í Caravel when we bought it because I needed the extra 3 inches of clearance to get up our road without bottoming out on the back of the trailer. It works excellent. No difference in towing/handling. Would recommend that you pick up a collapsible step for the times when ground slopes away from the door side of the Airstream. The extra 3 inch lift can create quite a step up under these situations. Easy peasy.
