Barker jack issue

on the road in calif. at the moment and am looking for a fix for my Barker 3000 power jack. It will power down but not "up". Therefore when hitching up or unhooklng I have to manually turn via the jack post for any raising motion needed. I'm sure u can imagine the hassle this is when putting on or off a weight distribution hitch. Thanks in advance, Mr. O.

Might be a bad switch. I had a similar problem and Barker sent me a new switch. Swaped it out and worked properly.

Put me in the same boat as Michael.

My jack had the same problems. Called Barker, and initially they wanted to "sell" the switch to me.

I was still in warranty, and they sent the Switch AND a set of micro switches, all under warranty.

If your warranty is expired, I would still advise replacing the micro switches. And, be sure to take a picture of the original connections, as it will be handy when you replace the old with the new components.

Good luck!

Be sure to follow the "timing" procedures in the Barker manual when you put the power head back on your jack. PO didn't do that on our trailer, and stripped gears in the jack was our very first repair. The jack should reach the cutoff switches in the power head before it reaches the mechanical stops in the jack itself--both going up and going down.

I was impressed by Barker customer service when I had my issue. It was a new jack, first time use. They sent over night all the switches, three gears and three fuses. The tech said this should cover all possible problems. If not they would overnight a new head. It took maybe 15 minutes to replace the main switch.

I just had my main switch changed out under warranty - it would go down but not up. I also picked up a spare and threw it in the tool kit!!

Mr. O,

Barker 3000 is, $195.93 on Amazon, 223.17 for the 3500 with free shipping.

Amazon has a couple of Fulfillment Centers near me (Modesto, CA.). One in Tracy and one in Patterson. Depending on were you are, and were you are heading here in CA. You can pick them up at any Fulfillment Center.

If you are close to Modesto and would like me to help. PM me.

You can call Barker at 888-367-6978. They will trouble shoot your jack over the phone and send you any required parts for free. The switch replacement is a quick and easy DIY job. Should be no reason to buy a new jack for this.

I have had two switches fail in two years. Both times the same problem - will go down but not up. Sounds like Barker has a defect?

My Barker screw drive 3500 has been with them for the last two weeks, hopefully left their plant yesterday and is on its way home. It is less than one year old. I sent it in because of crazy noises in use. Bob, the service guy said he replaced the lower end internal parts, all gears and micro switches. All these parts have been upgraded to make them more reliable and able to handle the advertised heavy lifting weights. So yes they do have a problem and are aware of it.

Michael, is the jack you shipped back the older Superjack as shown in this link? Rotating the head 90 deg allows the head to clear the propane tank cover and point the light towards the hitch.

Airstream Power Jack

Thanks

Kelvin

No, it is a new jack. I have no clearance issues with the jack head normal orientation.

They still have a defect and Barker and Airstream both know it. Our new 19' Flying Cloud has had two bad Barker switches this summer. They are so unreliable we replaced it with an Atwood. Now the Barker on our 23' International is doing the same thing. The dealer said half of their new Airstreams come from the factory with bad Bad barker jacks right at delivery. People keep buying them, and Airstream is saving a few bucks, so corporate doesn't care.

Looking at photos of 2016 models on Colonial Airstream it appears Airstream has switched to the Atwood. Some of the 2016 models have the Barker 3500 VIP and the newer deliveries have the Atwood jacks.

My older style yet less than a year old Superjack rattles on the down stroke with weight. I may send it back after my last trip in October.
