Attwood 4000 tongue jack repair
I have a 2018 30' bunk, and the Attwood 4000 tongue jack gears have stripped; it just spins but doesn't engage to lift. I'm doing it manually now.
I talked to the dealer, and they said there should be a gear kit, but didn't have one. Does anyone know of where I might be able to find one? Any good source to find a replacement if the gears aren't available?
Thanks!
David

This jack has been a pretty popular replacement when folks get tired of replacing the gear assembly in the stock Atwood jack.

I ready up on the Husky, and ended up just ordering one of those after reading about all the problems with the Attwood's. I ordered the 5000lb model though.
Thanks!

I’m assuming when you said “dealer” you meant the dealer who sold the AS to you and not Atwood.
I had failed micro switches in my Atwood so I emailed Atwood direct and they immediately sent me replacement parts (not for free of course). If you haven’t tried Atwood direct give them a shot.

Stripped Gears . . .
Any idea why or how the gears stripped.
I would like to avoid stripping the gears instead of replacing them.

Over loaded
Lack of lubrication
Debris got into the gears causing wear
Action

I tried calling Attwood, but couldn't get through, and gave up. I didn't see a way to email them.... I spoke to the Airstream dealer originally, and he tried to order the gears for me, but said they were on a long term backorder.
My understanding is that Airstream only used this model for a few years, and switch brands due to too many failures. I ended up buying the Husky, as that one seemed to be the most common replacement by Airstreamers from my reading. Hopefully it will be better. My jack failed after about 2 years. I greased the shaft periodically, and marked the high and low points so as not to grind against the stop. It was the original jack, and I bought the trailer new, so it shouldn't have ever been overloaded.

Did you ever even try to contact etrailer.com. I checked. They have rebuild kits. See post #2.

I saw replacement gears for other manufacturers on etrailer, but not for Attwood. Do any of them cross reference?

Experience tells me that it's cheaper in the long run to replace a failing jack than to try to prolong one's life. I've been there and wasted a lot of effort to have the jack fail anyway.

I've had Atwoods on both of my Airstreams since 2007. I've opened them up of regrets but have never found it was needed.
I did have a switch go bad and got a new one from Atwood for $20. All found them online for $10 (searching for the switch not Atwood).
