What is this stuff?

Taking off a panel or two as I do body work on my 64' Safari, I'm finding that the unit pretty dry and rot free, they used two different products to seal the airstream, a black and a grey. The grey is soft like putty, pretty amazing for a 55 year old airstream. The black is harder, has some pliablility. So my question is... what products are these? And are they still sold today?

Butyl Tape / Putty

The grey is 'RV Butyl Putty Tape' and the black is 'butyl tape'. They hold up remarkably well over time.

Thanks Shari! Do you recommend using this tape when I rivet panels back on?

Yes or Trempro sealant. You have to use something. We used the Trempro between the overlap on panels and on the rivets - especially if you are using Olympic Rivets.
