Wet Pillow......and I'm Happy!

Woke-up with a wet pillow.

Great.

A leak?

However, there was no rain in the night.

Upon closer inspection, I realized my hot head and breath upon the cold inner skin was causing condensation below the pano window which made the pillow wet. I like to sleep with the interior on the cool side. I do not turn the furnace on unless it is really freezing outside; I keep an electric heater on in the kitchen to warm/protect the trailer from the bedroom door to the rear.

So, last night made a bit of a headboard out of a blanket. The pillow was dry this a.m. Problem solved.

Just thought I would post. "Wet" doesn't always equate with "leak.

So...I am happy 'bout that. Whew!

I once "boondocked" in my compact car which I had converted to a camper with a bed, black felt velcro-on curtains and a 12v mini fridge. I parked at a k-mart in Islamorada in the Florida keys in January. Night temps couldn't have been below the 50s as ocean is on either side within a mile and when I awoke the next morning my windows were so wet with condensation they were dripping on my pillow too. I thought my "curtains" would help. I quickly realized the car had way too much glass to sleep without decent ventilation. Glad to hear your fix is working !

Others have had to put a vapor barrier between the mattress and plywood base, might be worthwhile checking there once in awhile....

This is a good gizmo to have for such occasions. Cheep too...

This may not be the best weather to do that. I know you're in BC, but it isn't Florida there, is it?

I was happy like this once -- Susie woke up with a wet pillow and it waren't me! We'd sprung a leak where the rockguard was screwed into the window frame. Easy fix.

Our thermostat is in the sleeping area. I don't find that the furnace runs any more if I crack a window open at the opposite end of the Safari to let humidity equalize. I see no more interior condensation in the morning.

Bob, ta. Will have to get one of those thingamajigs.

I'm afraid I've already suffered the agony of a soaking mattress (last year). Since then I've piled flattened cardboard boxes between plywood and mattress. Is A-OK now - especially after levelling out the cardboard after I kept sliding out of bed. lol!

Canoe, errrrrr......you remind me of someone else I know. When I told him I woke up with a "wet pillow," he asked "Where was the pillow?"

I have this problem in my AS as it is nothing but a tin (aluminum) can with very little insulation and metal framed windows. I like my AS but cold weather sleeping is not its strong point.
I have heard about a dehumidifyer. Can someone post about what to buy and how well it works.

handyn, there is actually very little condensation in the morning. The electric heater keeps it at bay - at least in the rest of the trailer. I turn the range fan on when I wake-up and that wicks it all away in a matter of minutes.

Winters here are relatively mild compared to the rest of Canada. However, I would agree - a harsher climate would require more dramatic measures.
