Vulkem 116 Caulking Vapor

Hi all,

We used a bunch of Vulkem 116 to recaulk all the seems on our interior walls (outside wall) during our restoration.

After months of curing and trying to air out the inside there is still a very distinct caulking odor inside the trailer.

Looking into the detailed specifications after the fact, Vulkem does not seem to be recommended for indoor use So we are a bit concerned if this is could be a persisting, maybe even health issue.

Does anyone else have similar issues and any possible solutions for this.

Is this the same moisture cured polyurethane that use in the other Trempro caulks. That stuff does not have much smell to start with. It would probably help for it to get really hot. Are the interior skins back on yet?

Thanks for the quick reply Perry.

Not sure about the actual composition of the caulking compared to the other Trempro products. I guess Trempo 635 is the newer No-Voc version of it, but is not as commonly available and priced a close to double.

The smell is definitly pretty intense to start with.

The interior skins are not back on yet, but we already have a layer of Prodex insulation over the outside skins.

If the prodex is not air tight you still might be able to shut up all the windows and get it hot in there to bake out and cure the stuff then ventilate. You may have to do this several times and adding a space heater might speed the process along. You are so far north that it may not have gotten hot enough to fully cure.

How about going over it with a heat gun?

You would melt the prodex with a heat gun and maybe other stuff as well.

Not exactly the best stuff to use for interior use... In fact on the data sheet is says "not for interior use".
