Solvent to remove 1963 factory sprayed black tar

My 1963 Bambi has a sprayed "black tar" goo, used to seal the floor, "C" channel, and outer shell. I have done a shell off restoration, ready to reseat the shell, and want to reseal the shell/belly wrap/floor.

Can anybody suggest a solvent to remove the old black tar material, so I can get a good clean bond with a new sealant ?

I had great results with Citristrip for that tar-like substance. I used the spray on kind, let it set for about 20 min, and the majority of it was wiped off with a paper towel. Using some mineral spirits should get off any residue after that.
