The only places I've ever seen it is a large full service RV dealership.

Try a West Marine store, or any good marine hardware store, or chandelry.

For information, what is SikaFlex 221 used for? Thanks for your answer.

SikaFlex 221 is a polyurethane formulation that Airstream uses as the primary sealant on the newer Airstreams. It is used liberally when joining segments, bedding windows, and for just about any large sealing requirements.

Smaller seams are sealed with Acryl-R, which is a solvent based product that never really fully cures.

I can't comment on it's availability, as I get mine from my major RV parts suppliers, but I know that it is available on the web. Just Google it and a bunch of outlets will pop up.

I was asking this question because I don't want to order a tube for $10 on the internet and pay $10 shipping. I will call around tomorrow. I want to use it to install 2 fantastic fans.

You won't find it at such stores. The most reliable source, other than on line or RV supply stores, are suppliers to the glazing industry. Check your yellow pages for glazing supplies. Marine supply stores also carry some types if Sika sealants, but not always 221.

You should be able to order it at the Airstream Online Store.

Roger,

I don't use SikaFlex 221 to install roof vents or fans. The 'preferred' method in the RV industry is to bed the under side of the fan housing in 1 or 2 layers of butyl tape, press the fan housing to the roof and then attach it with stainless steel sheet metal screws all around. Then cover the screws and the fan/roof seam with a liberal application of Dicor self-levelling sealant.

I have installed over 50 roof fans and skylites with this method, and have never had a leak. It also allows you to remove the fan if required with not a lot of effort, where the SikaFlex will be extremely difficult to remove. I prefer it for more 'vertical' rather than 'horizontal' sealing issues.

Dicor and butyl tape can be had at any well stocked RV supply shop.

Lewster, Thank you for the dicor and butyl tape suggestion. Do you think it is available at Campingworld?

I have purchased Sikaflex at marine supply stores. I have used it for sealing areas as well as attaching door glass to window regulators on cars where there is no upper door frame like 60s pony cars (Cameros, Firebirds, Javelins etc).

Really good stuff.

By the way Lewster, I notice you hang out in Hood River, Oregon. Is that where the Full Sail Ale is made? Mmmmm, reminds me, I need to make a beer run before I tackle the vent removal. I need some "bottled bravery" to go up on the roof.Hehe

Thanks, Jim Foster, I found some at Home Depot in the cement area, not sure if is the same stuff, it didn't have the 221 on it, but it was gray. Did not buy it yet. Not sure how long of a shelf life it has.

That's probably the construction cement. Not the same stuff as the 221!!!!! I would not use it on an RV.....or Airstream.

Just bite the bullet and get the proper item. Your trailer will love you for it!!!

YUP! That is the place. Their brewery is right downtown between 4th and 5th. They even have a tasting room if you're ever in town.

Ditto this! Sika makes adhesives and sealants for just about every industry out there. Be very careful and only select those that are designed to be used on aluminum. If in doubt, you can go to their website and read everything you could possibly want to know about the varieties of sealants they manufacture.
