Sealing the rub rail, is it important?

I noticed on a video with Vinnie's Northbay Airstream he was sealing the rub rail very carefully.

I am assuming there is a horizontal seal there? I am assuming this is important to seal/reseal when the time comes? There is a rub rail mid-height and one down low.

Thanks.

I sealed mine on the top and left the bottom alone to breath, like it was doing yoga. This is on each rub rail, mid and bottom.

The lower rub rail covers banana wrap and side panels. Very def. seal by running sealer along top of rail, middle I don't no if cover a seam or not but I always caulk same as bottom, as under vinyl strip are pop rivets that hold rails on.

The bottom rub rail is where the shell/floor/bellypan meet. The bellypan overlaps the shell which will allow water to run right to the floor. You need to caulk this area.
