Sealing Question...

When is the best time seal the trailer...After stripping Or Before Polishing?

Does it matter if we strip the trailer then seal it and then compound it??

Thanks in advance
Adam

We re-caulked before polishing. Two reasons:
1) we didn't want old loose caulk getting in the buffing pads which would cause scratches during polishing

2) the compounding "goo" would get in all the seams and have to be cleaned out before caulking if we waited until after. If not totally removed, the caulk wouldn't stick and leaks could develop.
Although others have done all the caulking after for their reasons too...it's one of those questions, as many answers as people you ask.

We also removed all the old caulking we could with popscile sticks before re-caulking.

We strip our first then cleaned up all the old vulkem.Let it set for and 4 hours to insure it was dry. Then started replying the new Trempro. Then am going to let it all set up for a couple of days.
Hopefully by Tuesday we can start compound & polishing the A/S.

My vote would be to seal after the compounding but before the cycloing.

The compounding is very dirty work creatling lots of black oxidation mess. That oxidation will get on your nicely sealed vulkem areas and turn the nice grey into dirty looking black.

So if you seal after that you'll avoid the mess.

didn't think about that but.....to late now so far so good....if or when we get to that and it is a problem ill have to bring out the old teeth brush.
But once you polish and then try to seal aren't you worried it may not stick as well?
