How do I remove the old sealant from vents and what sealant is best for replacement?

Try Gum-out carb cleaner - it really depends on what the sealant on there is for removal.
Vulkum is what Chris says he'd use for re-sealing. AKA: TemPro. Avoid silicone like the plague - it reacts with aluminum!

This is what I used when repairing the black water vent, The Westleys worked really well in cleaning the gummy stuff, acryl-clean for softening and final wipe down. A wooden paint stirrer worked well for scraping the old gunk off, no scratching.
