Re-Sealing Roof on 92 MH

Hi there,

I don't know if this is too much of a task for me to do myself (since I have not done this before) but I'm interested in getting the gaps re-sealed ASAP. They're opening up and the PO used what looks like regular bathroom caulking which has cracked all the way through on the seams that were sealed earlier.

A friend who has a Rockwood recommended using clear silicone caulking after scraping off the old stuff. Does this sound reasonable?

BTW: This is not the TT but the 92 (Land Yacht) MH with what looks like white paint on the roof. I don't even know if this is a metal roof but I can see that my handheld GPS works real well inside. So that makes me wonder if it's a fiberglass roof.

Thanks.
Dave

It is a filar roof. Airstream today uses Cool-Seal. This is a liquid sealant. You can also use Bostik 1100 Fast-set that can be purchased at Airstreams website.

Well, I don't think I'm going to work on it myself yet...(not this time around). I took a closer look at the roof today and started scraping at some of the previous sealant to see whether it was clean underneath and started to find a fiberglass patch at one end of one of the roof seams. So I stopped scraping and digging and applied some silicone caulking to the spot I excavated to hold it until I can get a pro to look at it.

Is it expensive to have a pro shop seal it and should I consider having an Airstream authorized shop do the work, as opposed to a non-Airstream authorized shop?

Thanks again.
