pressure test results & sealer

While at the Dogwoods & Bluegrass rally, I asked SoldierMedic to pressure test my rig. As most of you know, it is a process where he installs a fan contraption to put added air pressure in your unit and sprays soapy water on the outside to find leaks. They show up as bubbles.

Trust me, at a rally, it always draws a crowd.

After seeing a few other members units being tested – including a fairly new one –looking like a frothing mad dogs, I was pretty concerned. Turns out I had two leaks of substance.

One under a window here:

One where the plug was installed. No sealer - one of the many reasons I will never use that repair shop again…

Most of my rig looked like this – remember it is a 73 that is left outside all year long: No bubbles.

The one thing I did differently was to use Capt. Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure everywhere – It is a thin substance that pulls into seams by capillary action. You will have to do many applications of it and, if left to dry it is a buggar to clean off so stand by with a moist towel to catch drips. It even goes into horizontal seams.

I don’t own stock in the company but sure wish I did. You might give it a whirl...

Hey Digger,

I wish we had a before testing of your trailer to compare how well that creeping crack gunk works, but looks like it did the job well.

Don't forget that both of your sewer vent gaskets are in need of replacement and can let water leak in due to their current condition.

Another example

After seeing the results you had I also had perform his magic on my 34'. I'm glad he did as the process exposed a number of leaks. Almost all of the rivets holding the Zip-Dee awnings were of the hollow type and almost all were leaking, there were also leaks at the front window and where a bit of the molding had loosened at the rear of the wheel well.
At Steves reccomendation, I picked up some Par Bond and will be spending a beautiful Saturday sealing up my coach, Makes me feel better knowing what needs to be done (and where!) Thanks Steve! and sign me up for a once a year preventitive maintenance appointment.

Any type of soap will work. Use a ratio that suds up when shaken.

Tell ya what Scott,

Host a big rally up in your neck of the woos, and if enough people want the testing I will fly up there and join the group.

Steve, can I help you drag your stuff to the 50th C2C? Hosting Pee Wee I know you are cramped for space. I would really like to get a before leak test on my Tar Baby!
