Permanent fix for rear bumper leak
Hello,
I've read the forums and saw mention of a redesign or permanent fix for the rear bumper (leak under the rub rail/trim) that causes the majority of the floor rot. Could someone please direct me to one of those threads?
Thanks
Duff

This is a good on going thread with lots of good links.

Here is one about putting the skins back on to eliminate the plate at the back.

Here is one from TOP (Lance).

Many of us are getting rid of the bumper plate at the back that funnels water under the floor. There are other places for water get get back there but the bumper plate is one of the main weak points for the design. The plate itself is not the problem so much as it is covered up by the belly trim band so you can't see the seal going bad or get in there to caulk it unless you remove the belly trim. It is a case of two wrongs don't make a right.

Thanks Bob and Perry,
Read many, many, "rear leak" posts yesterday which mentioned a redesign/fix in passing but didn't actually link to them!! Appreciate the help.

Duff,
I haven't posted in a while but I've worked a few days on my trailer since Thanksgiving and it's going back together (first thread that Perry referenced in post 3, above). I should get to installing the rear bumper plate in about three weeks, maybe sooner. That doesn't help you now, but I do plan to describe what I will do to install the plate without it going under the trailer at all along with pictures. Read post 207 in that thread to for a brief description of my idea.

I have a 2007 27 FB Safari and I would appreciate it it someone could tell me what kind of sealant is best to use on 1.) the space under the band above the rear bumper storage area and 2.) other small cracks around the tail lights, mitre joints on windows, etc. I've wandered around for hours on various threads, but it's not clear to me. Thanks in advance for your help.

One more question please; my rubber molding on the curbside is falling off. Is double sided tape the answer to reinstall or is there something better? Thanks again.

These have worked well for me...
Narrow gap seams, Acryl-R with applicator.
And Sika 721 UV for wider gap applications...

I've found this to be the best double sided tape solution.
