Batwing Antenna Leak

While camping recently over a very, very rainy weekend, I noticed water around the antenna crank inside the trailer. This is a Batwing antenna that is only 2 or 3 seasons old.

So yesterday, I got up on the roof to investigate, and found right away that the weather-boot on the coax that seals up the cable's roof penetration had deteriorated. It was tight on the cable when it was new, but it ain't anymore. Kinda stretched out...rain water that hits the cable will just drip right on down, through the boot, and into the hole in the roof.
So I put a glob of parbond around the boot/cable joint. I should probably wrap it up w/ electrical tape or something, too.

Anyway, just wanted to report this. If mine has stretched, others have, too. That weather boot design is inadequate.

After reading this I got up on top of mine today. The 3 year old weather boot (rubber) is fairly loose and is only saved by the great excess of caulking that J.C. uses on their newer coaches. Good call, Chuck! Keep an eye out foks.

Likewise, I noticed a leak but it was leaking into the air conditioner from the inner skin. I looked on top of the trailer and found the boot had worked up the cable and tilted to the side which left the cable area open to the elements. I also noticed a few some vulkem had deteriorated so I cleaned the area off, applied new Trempro 635 to the previously caulked area and a little on the base of the boot before slipping it back over the raised area the cable went into. No leaks since.
