Vent replacement

I have a 31' 1979 Sovereign with 3 vents, whats the cheapest way to replace the center rectangle vent?
Also, I've seen lots of standard 14" x 14" replacement vents on Ebay, will they fit in place of the 2 original vents front and rear?

Hi, Cookeville,

The entire vent, or are they the ones that have the skylight in them? I have a little broken out peice in my center one that I've taped up temporarily. It looks like translucent plastic riveted on and seated in Vulkem.

My plan is just to drill them out and replace them with whatever I can find locally. I want to do it all from the top because it would be a hassle going through the bottom.

Do your's have the integrated fan and lamp assembly?

Lamar

Use the search tab...

There are many threads describing (and detailing with photographs) the efforts of other members to replace old vents with newer Fantastic Fans or some other brand of vent fan.. The answer is that the 14" square vents can be replaced with newer design vent fans, though the curved roof means a lot of sealant (Vulkem..) and usually some sheet metal cutting to enlarge the opening. Search for "vent" plus "replacement" plus "fantastic" and you should find useful info... Most from E-Bay or RV stores come with white flat internal plastic trim, and Airstreams require curved trim plate to fit curved roof. You can tighten screws to try and make it look OK, or order from Fantastic Fan and get proper bezel, which comes in ivory for older Airstreams. Majority of us hired someone to do install, rather than figure out scaffolding and logistics of working on rooftop... (One wrong step and new dents appear as if by magic..)

Be advised you might sell or donate your old metal vent covers and parts to someone restoring a vintage unit, and get some investment back..

Rectangular ceiling vent covers were last used by Airstream in the 1971 models.

1972 and up all have square vent covers.

Rectangle vent

Hey....my trailer is a 1979 model Soverieign, it has a center rectangle vent. It looks original to me, but maybe someone installed it later....at some point early in its life it had what looked like a factory refit from a green interior to an orange interior. Then went though a long crappy period.
