need help trying to figure out what happen with fan.

SO i installed my natures head composting toilet and needed power for the fan. I figured there was plenty of 12v around just needed to find it. I pulled the cover off the fan switch on wall and started looking around with a light probe i grounded on the LP copper line under cabinet.

I found power on the up/ down hood switch and then started looking for a negative side. On the fan switch there was a white wire so I hooked my clamp to that and got light.. OK great power for my fan.

I cut the butt connector off, rewired adn attached small wire for plug for NH fan and plugged it in and EURAKA.. fan worked.. so i start to push everything back in wall to screw cover back on and checked fan and NOTHING.. same with lid up down.

I have tried EVERYTHING, plus a lot of very colorful words, and can not figure ouit what the hell happened.. I really only took off butt splices and did check the connection and it appears OK.

I have attached a couple of picture of the switches..

any help appreciated

In the trailer everything is grounded through the trailer body not a wire. The white wire coming off the switch was most likely the switched side going to the fan. If you connected a the ground side of your new fan to it that would be a path to ground through the original fan and yes the new fan would work but most likely at reduced speed.

You should be able to pick up power on the feed side of the fan switch then feed your new fan and ground that new fan to the trailer body.

this is sorta what i was thinking but still not able to figure out why thing will not now run.. I put everything back and it will not work.

dont really have a place to ground to trailer under the sink. I figured it wouild be easier to use a good ground/natural wire from around the switches but i guess not.

so i guess i need to do some more looking and still not able to figure out WHY this is not working.
