We had the same problem, I installed the Fantastic vent overs, and solved the problem. airflow is just as good, and we can leave the vents open even in the rain.....easy to install, and they can be removed to clean the Fantastics.

Adding a small switch is a good idea—thanks, I’m swiping that idea as well.

How common is this ailment? Most of the time, the FF in the front of my trailer won't open (or stay open) when I turn it on. And when it is open and running, it won't close when it starts raining. I have a feeling that my rain sensor isn't working correctly, so I took it in to get fixed under warranty. My local AS dealer charged me a few hundred dollars to tell me it's working fine and the diagnostics aren't covered.

I called AS customer service to ask about my options, and they have given me a good "Plan B" that should allow me to get my stuff fixed and recover the diagnostic fees that the Katy Airstream dealer has extorted from me.

I've noticed that pollen or sap on the moisture sensor will activate the raise/lower function.
Thanks for the tips.
