Fantastic fan vent won't open

I see a couple of other threads about fantastic fan issues, but this is slightly different. In my case, the vent won't open when I flip the switch, but it will open manually with the crank. The fan won't turn on once the vent is open.

I think I may have unintentionally driven home from a long trip with this vent partially open.

Anything I can do to troubleshoot or fix myself?

Thanks. I looked at the fuse listing and it appears that the reading lights over the bed and a few other things are on that same fuse, and those are still working. I assumed that meant the fuse isn't the issue?

Is the fan speed set at 1, at the minimum?

Wind it up manually, lock the handle, turn off the rocker switch, see if it closes. It may be the limit switch.

I'll try that. If it is the limit switch, what then?

Never mind! I figured out what was going on. The fuse on the fan was still operational. However, I pulled the entire fuse case down to expose the wires, and found that one of the wires the fuse connects to had become dislodged. When I pushed it back in, the fan started working again.

Awesome! I hope corporate is reading this and will adjust. Wire connections should stay put.

Rain Sensor

Glad you solved the mystery. I ran into a similar issue this summer while camping - just would not open or run. It was scheduled for a warranty check the next week. I added it to the list - the tech told me that a heavy dew will trigger the rain sensor. After the tow to the dealer on a sunny day it worked just fine.

Agreed. One of my two Fantastic Vents wouldn't work when I first wired it up. I opened it up and discovered one of the wires to the plunger switch was loose.
Reattaching it with wire glue resolved the problem, but I shouldn't have had to. Admittedly, that vent had sat in a box in the basement for a decade before I installed it, but still.
