Fantastic fan... night cover?
Our fan works just fine but let’s in a lot of light at night. Any suggestions on blocking some of that light? Specifically when it’s closed?

on our trip to Alaska, the other year, we had so much light at night I took some scrap pieces of the foiled bubble wrap and made inside covers for them and used small pieces of adhesive backed velcro to hold them in place. Worked great..
If there comes a time that I need to replace the covers I'd look for darker ones if they were available

Go to YouTube. Bring up the review of the 2019 International Signature posted by Colonial Airstream. Several minutes into the video Patrick will demonstrate the new for 2019 (standard equipment) Fantastic fan sliding shade. It is just a smaller version of shade used on skylight. To order one, you will need the last 6 digits of the serial number of a 2019 unit that is equipped with the shade. Very cool. On a less enthusiastic note, Airstream has made the POWER AWNING standard equipment on all Internationals. Yuck! I have already Emailed my opinion. Told them to K.I.S.S.

During our last outing, I came to the same decision. I just installed two Bauer SOVS Sun Out RV Vent Shades. The screw holes did not line up as advertised. I had to drill new holes for the four screws. Only concern is that the frame does obscure the controls a bit.

I made a cover out of white foam board. I attached it to the frame with Velcro.

My wife went to the dollar store and purchases a gray drying mat for a dollar
She cut a circle out of it the same size as the fantastic fans,,she then attached some small Velcro tabs,,(clear color) to both cover and on the fan housing ,,,at night we just attach the pieces to the openings ,,,works great in the mornings

I've got some covers that I bought from Campers Choice at Tiffin Motor coaches. They are square beige padded covers with 6 snaps. When needed we snap them on and if we want to run the fans we can take the two snaps away from us and let it hang still blocking most of the light. Our fans have the screens that are about flush with the ceiling so the padded insert won't work.

Amazon:
ADCO 7172 18" Deluxe Solar Vent Cover (White Over Silver Color)
Just velcro it on and light and heat are reduced.

WE also have the shades as shown in the pics in post #5. Ours are white and were a quick, simple install. We use them while towing to keep sun out of the AS too. I think they were <$10 few years ago. They close with a simple click of a button and roll up and stay on ceiling so no need to store them...or forget where we put them 😲

To solve the same problem in our 2018 Classic, I bought tension rods and put them in place on either side inside the well and close to edge. We are currently dropping thick tea towels over but next week I'll be sewing small made-to-fit panels with blackout fabric.
cheers

I second Roger's suggestion. It's really easy to cut squares of Reflectix--make them just a bit oversized in one dimension--that will fit and stay put, completely blocking the light, unlike that roller-blind gizmo which leaves significant gaps. I'm light--sensitive and use mine every night. I also put them in on hot days, since they keep out the heat. They cost next to nothing and store in next to no space.

Fantastic Fan make an insulated replacement cover that is opaque and does not let in any light. I have them on mine and they work great.
