Fantastic Fan Maintenance

The up/down of the cent cover for my fantastic fan is stuttering a bit. Seems like it needs a bit of lube. Any suggestions?

It uses a stepper motor and a gear drive. You can access it by removing bezzle, then the manual crank. from there you may be able to get some household oil or some spray lube into the gears and bearings. I remember that it is not too much trouble to remove the unit for better access but I don't remember just no how I did that.
