Fantastic fan leak

Has anyone had luck sealing around fantastic fan on the roof with 3M Extreme sealing tape 4411n. I donít see any cracks in fan plastic shroud on roof.

Hint; remove the inner shroud and check to see if insulation is saturated. Most likely hair line crack in outer shroud at base. Don't ask, both of mine cracked. Wasn't till removed we found them.

Airsteam recommends flexible polyurethane sealants, refer to your manual. I use Silkaflex 221 though the white discolors in the sun which is unfortunate. Avoid Silicone as it will crack in short order. Apply liberally and your troubles are over.

Agreed. I had my two fans fail at the corner of the flange. Hairline crack on both..over torqueing at construction, likely at least what FV said. could be body flex too. different dates...One caught early, the other never saw the water on the floor but apparently ran down the inside in the insulation cavity. Noticed some softness : (((((((

Called FV, both replaced by FV/now dometic. 2 years p&l, 7 yrs parts, my dime labor as i was out of 2 yr labor warranty. I'm down with the latter. Used 221 on both fans, then a complete peel/seal with 221. Don't think i posted pics on 20 footers thread. Let me know and can dig up pics of crack locations and post, but the started at the screw and headed to the flange.

As for 221...dealer said what that. Now they use it exclusively.

Maybe pm bob is he doesn't see this and want to discuss. Must admit...almost went with the 3m tape but Lewster convinced me of the 221 attributes.

Let me add; when replacing the fans, place 2x2 wood reinforcement under the flange AWAY from the closet rib (between outer and inner skin). I had an independent RV repair service tell me of the problem. Fracture probably due to vibration caused by lack of support.

Yes...Very good luck. 👍
I've been using it for at least 8yrs.
I did this 5 Seasons ago. I did not remove the unit.
I removed the all the surface caulking. Using Brakleen, green scotch pads, plastic scraper and plenty of paper towels. I have also sealed the skylight, radio & TV antenna. A small roll comes in handy in the AS tool kit.
