fantastic fan gasket

my fans came with a foam gasket. use it and caulk after install? or pitch it and use butyl?

Pitch it. After a while it loses elasticity and will leak.

I did not use the gasket. I used a high quality polyurethane sealant and it has not ever leaked. I did however mount it on a totally flat surface.

I used butyl and Dicor self leveling sealant on the outside edge and screw heads.

What Size Butyl tape for Fantastic fan

So the Butyl tape replaces the old black gasket around the Fantastic fan? I'm assuming the Butyl tape should be the same size of the gasket?

I put the butyl tape between the fans plastic frame and the roof. It replaces the gasket.
