I own a 1979 - 31 ft Soveriegn and have two Fan-Tastic fans to install.

The front vent is wired for a fan. Are the other two vents wired for a fan. The other two vents at this time have no fan installed.

Gordon,
I don't believe the other two vents have power to them. If you pull the inside trim you might find wires there for power.
I spent yesterday installing a Fan-Tastic fan in the front vent replacing the Airstream vent and the light fixture under it. I had planed on a 1 to 1 1/2 hour job, and took 2 1/2 hours just to remove the outside cover and sealer.
It sure is a great fan a lot better than orginally installed by Airstream.

Thank you for the information and the bad news on the time element. I guess it would be a one hour job if the rivets were all out before hand. I' mjust going to start the install now.

Hi Cowboy:

I just moved my Airstream to Thompson for the summer,,,, if it ever comes. There is a huge pile of snow up there yet. I flew back to Winnipeg today and sit till the weather warms up north. I fly water bombers for the province and there ain't much need for me up north just yet.

31F here this A.M. To bad you have to put up with all that heat.

I used to go to DFW every spring for recurrent training on the jet I flew. Nice weather usually with horrendous thunderstorms.

We purchased the fan from CW and I called the company and they are sending out a "airstream garnish" no charge. When it gets here is there any thing else I should know? Does the space in the galley area of a 1983 310 MH accept this new fan? Or should I just pay CW the 55.00 to do it. They are booked til July 5th. Also getting up on top would it help if I put a carpeted board up there?

I haven't gotten around to intalling the fan as my trailer is in Thompson Manitoba and I am not.

Acording to the instructions some metal cutting is required. Carpeted board sounds like a good idea.

I had a Fantastic Fan installed by them at the International Rally in Sioux Falls SD last summer. This was on my former 1960 Overlander. They had a promo at the rally for free install. It only took them about 1/2 hr. Shows how much practice helps.

I am happy to report, I have installed my fan-Tastic fan with no trouble as long as you have the tools.

To get the old vent off, I used a standard flat carpenters chisel to remove the aluminum rivets. There is a little bit of metal trimming..... no big deal. A new light has to be installed also. I put in a flourecent light fixture.

It operates as they say it does.

I think one is enough, so, I just happen to have one for sale. It is still unopened in the box.

Glad to hear all went well! I want to install one in my 78 sovereign and wondered what you did for the light? Did you mount the flourescent next to fan for wiring access? I was thinking of mounting in the galley area, which has a vent and the 6 light fixture using the light wiring for both fan and light. Do you see any problems?

What are you guys doing with your old Airstream roof vents (the ones with the little skylight)? Do any of you have the Lindeen vent covers that aren't being used?

I installed the light fixture beside the vent. It give plenty of light in the lounge area.

I will let you know when we get ours installed next month. We do not have a light just the fan and cover that of course opens up. It is opaque is that what you mean by sky light? If it let me know.

The cover for the fan is almost clear and lets in light. I also removed the original light fixture that was in my "79" A/S and replaced it with a new flouresent light fixture which I placed next to the new vent.

This is in the lounge area. If you are putting yours in the kitchen area, the same would apply I should think.

The light fixture is off center,,, but what the heck, it doesn't matter to me.

You could also install a light fixture on both sides of the vent.
