Fan motor weak

The cover on one of my fantastic fans is very weak. It’ll open slowly for an inch or so and then stop; it has to be manually opened the rest of the way. Can it be fixed? Or do I need a new fan?

Parts are available. But, it may just be a bound/dirty lift mechanism. I would disassemble and clean both the lift arm and the gear/motor box. (the "box" with the hand crank attached.)
