Early Astradome Lifter Repair
Lost the astradome on my 60 Tradewind to high cross winds in the Texas panhandle last week. Found the dome replacement at VTS but realize now both lifters are damaged and missing top mount. Anyone repaired these or know of a source for replacement? Thanks

I don't know where you can get replacements, but there are pictures of the missing mounting hinge. You may be able to fab something based on the photos.
If you need dimensions let us know.

Dimensions on the mounting hinge would be helpful. I have not taken the lifter apart yet but hopefully the top center can be drilled out, tapped, threaded and attached to a facsimile hinge. My research to this point says this is a common problem and inland rv's replacement is a poor copy. Thanks for the help! Richard

Skyhighrvparts.com has replacement Hehr vent LeDeux lifters, but expensive. Someone else had replicas in stock, but will try and remember. So many have replaced their Hehr vents with Maxxair and other brands, there should be some out there. Good luck

About 15 years ago we were driving along an Interstate when my 7-year-old, who was sitting behind me, suddenly said "Why didn't you stop?" He had been looking out his window into the side rear view mirror which happened to give him the right view of the trailer to see our front Astrodome blow off! He didn't realize that I didn't have the same view. By the time we figured out what had happened we were too far along to stop, but we got off at the next exit, circled back and stopped at the same spot. There, next to the highway, I found our vent with the hard-to-find hardware attached!

Try Inland RV. 1964 Safari, I got mine there a few years back. They fit great and work fine. They also have the Astrodome covers.

Just completed replacement of my Astrodome on my 62 safari. Got the dome from VTS and the lifters from Highskyrvparts but no mounting brackets. After $350.00 in parts and 3 days of labor I do have a working vent. Would I do it again? NO the AC is only 6ft. away. Wife says it looks nice so that’s all that matters.

I just looked seems like it's still there.
In the classifieds, under parts, titled 65 Safari.

I have a set for you
We are replacing the entire Astrodome in our 1964 Overlander. I will be selling our original lifters with brackets. Time line is early January when our new skylight from Maxim arrives. Are you interested? If so please send me a PM and we can discuss.
Lynn

Haven’t had any luck getting an answer from Inland RV about replacement lifter. Anyone have luck finding them somewhere else?
