I used an Airstream shade for a skylight which does not block the light but does diffuse it

FF cover
If the cover your using has a reflective color on the fan side it may reflect enough heat to cook the fan. I have seen the results of using reflectix type of material to block opening on skylights. The sun reflects back to the plastic skylight and cooks it into a black, cracked up mess. The cure is replacement of skylight. Maxim is the preferred brand. The lid on your FF is tinted but a bunch of heat can still be created with a foil type of material facing up. Be careful when using reflective material that can focus the suns rays to a small area.
The best thing to stop the light is a piece of 1/4" thick foam core board cut to fit snuggly in opening. Leave a small finger size hole in it somewhere so you can remove it. The board is white and will stay way cooler.

Cool project. It's all the little projects we do that really make it our own. Tastly little luxuries.
Agreed with the reflective surface. This is the same thing that one will want to be cautious of especially for things like skylights. Avoid any potential for concentrating light and heat that will take a toll on plastics.
Camco makes little insulating pillows that are meant for this as well for the less DIY crowd. Available in both reflective and non-reflective:

We did the same with color matched fabric with female snaps in the corners. We replaced the fan’s corner screws with male snaps. Super easy and looks great.

Is there an external cover for the fans and hopefully the skylight too?

The same company that makes the fans also offers covers for them. They are called "Ultrabreeze" fan covers and come in white, smoke and black colors. They are $50.00 or so each. Get the bug screen for them also, about $12.00 each. They take about 15 minutes to install. Easy peasy. I recommend using the "Ultrabreeze" covers as they allow the fan lid door to fully open. Other brands of covers, Maxxaire is one, may not allow the fan lid to open fully.
Available at the dreaded Camping World and other places online. Have at it!
The factory skylight is really kind of a cheapy to be on a premium trailer like an AS. When you go to replace it get a "Maxim" skylight. You can custom order the shades of glass to shield a lot or a little sunlight. About $300.00 or so.

Camping World has a foam cover for the vent hole. Would not work with mine, the fan crank and controls got in the way.

Thank you. On my list when I take him at the end of the camping season for upgrades.

I saw the foam insert for the Fantastic Fan at Camping World. I plan on getting one.
But I also have two skylights. One is about 14X22 inches and the other is about 19X19 inches. Does anyone know if there are any foam inserts commercially available for the skylights?
Thanks!
