63 Overlander Hatch Dome Cover

My new-to-me 63 Overlander has a totally destroyed and very leaky 14x14 fiberglass/plastic? hatch dome in the rear, over which we have shrinkwrapped with marine-grade shrinkwrap plastic. While this is a great temporary fix, I am looking for a suitable replacement. Searching different websites and this forum, I have found that these units for the Hehr fans are no longer available. Has anyone had sucess finding a replacement that will work with some customization?

I am enjoying digging through this forum and learning all about my new trailer!

-Tracey

I have two 14"X 14'" Complete Hehr vents with aluminum covers.
By complete, I mean covers, working fans, lifters, crank handles and screen. If interested, please PM me. I won't sell just the covers.
If you need just the 14 X 14 solardome with gasket, they are available at Inland RV and probably elsewhere.
Keep enjoying your digging, lots of good stuff here.

I made a flat one from corrigated clear Polycarbonate plastic (hardware store) with an aluminum edge ell to prevent water leakage at the sides. Works good and is self insulating and more durable than the vac. formed ones. Sealed the edge to panel with silicone and blind pop rivets. Easy to do and cheap. Also did the same for the big one in the front that would have cost a bundle. You can also buy a regular 14X14 and just screw it to your existing openers. Pop rivets stress this kind of plastic and lead to cracks.

Rog0525,

I just tried to send you a PM, but your mailbox is full. I am interested in the vents. Please send me a PM with the price.

Rog,

Remember that the 1963 has squared off vents, no rounded corner ones like they had in later years. The later vents are difficult to attach due to there being a square roof cutout, which is too large for the late model vent.
Fantastic vents fit into these very well, often without any cutting of skin.

Thanks for the post, uwe. The vents I have were taken fron a 1968 Ambassador and they do have rounded corners.

A Day Late and a Dollar Short?

My New-to-Me 67 Overlander is in the same shape...needing BOTH Hehr covers (white plastic) PLUS a cover for the larger "skylight?" (about 17" x 27"...give or take an inch either way).

I understand Inland RV may have some (for an arm and a leg). Can't afford the Fantastic Fans. Not sure if the homemade ones (previously posted in this thread) would actually work if I do it....

Any help for this wide-eyed Newbie?

Home made Vent covers

I have never taken pictures of my covers but they work for me and only cost me an hour apiece to make and install. Material cost was about $10. They work and do not leak. More durable than original equipment or anything available commercially now. I have had them on the unit for about 8 years. They do not look original but most people never notice them up there. I am not a purist.
