18 inch vent cover for Avion? Used?
I have an Avion with the 18 inch roof vents that needs a cover. Does anyone have this odd ball size laying around or know someone who does? Cayo wants over $100 for one, which is 1/10 the value I paid for the whole trailer! Is there anyone who could make one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Adam,
They are not readily available like the standard size units. I haven't found a price less than $90.00. So you're price seems to be in the ballpark. There are a couple of forum members who know about Avions, far more than I do. Maybe they can shed some insight.
On the bright side...At least you'd be keeping things original.
I recently purchase two 2'x 2' squares of 0.80" aluminum that I hope to use to make replacement covers from. The plastic on one vent cover is starting to degrade, and like you I was hoping to come up with a replacement solution. My efforts will not be cheaper than buying new ones, but my hope is that the aluminum ones will give me greater service life.
Regards,
Kevin

Please recheck the dimensions of the vent flange that's riveted to the roof.
Most ceiling vent covers are 14" x 14".
Airstream did use a 14" x 26" from 1971 and prior.

Andy,
Its an Avion. Their standard roof vents were 18" square. The total width to fit the hole is something like 21" overall. The fan itself in them is almost 14" in diameter. I can fit through the opening.

The front vent cover on my 34 footer is cracked and needs replacing as well. I was thinking of replacing the entire assembly with a Fantastic Fan. I've never actually measured it, though, so will take your word that it's 18" square. I didn't think it was that big, but maybe so. Anyway, if I didn't want to pay the $100 to Cayo, I'd just fabricate one out of aluminum. I'd probably paint it white on top and glue rigid foam insulation to the inside. Only downside is that it won't be translucent so it'll be a little darker.
Good luck.

The vents Avion trailers used are indeed 18" X 18" and I have a few. Please contact me by PM. The ones I have are fiberglas and are non transparent. These are well made and will last. I do not have any hardware for these vents.

Would this help you? It's mounting is 18" X 18", and has a thermal barrier.

Andy, The roof vent you have looks very similar but the cover for the Hammond vent is rounded in the corners. Thanks

Our square corner covers work ok with the radius flanges.
We have supplied them to Airstream owners for years.
When the square is opened, it provides more "tenting" than the radius corner covers, should it start top rain.
If it's fastened to the roof, then it doesn't matter.
