Window replacement

Greetings all, as some of you might have read I have a porthole window that needs replacement. It will be done under warranty by the dealer. My question is how is it replaced. Is it from the inside or the outside? Thanks for any input.

Both, but the bulk of the work occurs from outside unless they use bucked rivets in which case it would be 50/50 When I replaced my Vista View I used Olympic Rivets and most of the work was done from the outside.

Yaaa! Just got my replacement window in from Colaw's Salvage...Can anyone give me a heads up how to release the pivoting hinge on the top from the window frame...this is on a 94' Sovereign side window.. I am just replacing the glass and top hinge part. It looks like it's just sitting in there but I'm not sure how much pressure I need to put on it to pull it out I guess....Thanks in advance! Ann

Ann,
you release the hold open stuff by removing the screws/bolts, then lift the window up past 90 degrees and it will release. Putting back in is a bit more involved, you have to get it started then push down on the center as you swing it down.

Hey Aaron...Thanks....

I got to the point of bolt removal..it's just pivoting and I have had it all the way up like you said..as that's what I thought I read somewhere previously..just doesn't want to seem to drop out..should I try to gently pry the pivot point at the beginning??

I think you need to just press down GENTLY at the center of the window. Mine popped out when I rotated thru the 90 degree range.

Yes!!! I got it!

Had to actually open window till it was about at 10:30...sprayed down the seam with WD and it started to lift in the corner...worked at it with a screwdriver with the tip covered w/ masking tape and VIOLA...it dropped out

Now the fun begins tomorrow of trying to get it in!! This should be interesting.

Thanks for you help Aaron!!

I have to replace the glass in a pivoting oval window in a '71 excella.
What is the secret technique for removing (& reinstalling) the window & frame so I can replace the glass?
It seems that all access doors and pivoting windows have this same wierd hinge which looks like an aluminum lockseam. Ive tried opening some of the
access doors and only succeed in damaging this "lockseam"
one of the access doors poppped off and I cannot get this "strange" lockseam hinge back together.
Any tips would be appreciated.
