Where is the best place to get Safety glass made for my lil Vintage wonder?
Reason I want it, my 2 yr old can fall through front window in livingroom area.
Marti, You can purchase heat tempered safety glass (as long as it is flat glass) for your trailer from a local automotive glass shop. Call them first with measurements for prices. Take them you current windows and they will even install the new glass in the frames for you at their hourly labor rate. Biggest issue is removing windows from your vintage trailer and re-installing them after glass is replaced with heat tempered. The shop will do it but it will cost you more. Ed

Jim, They can order it if you can provide the correct radius of the curve. Probably best to take the trailer to them and let them take measurements. It must be made curved before the glass is tempered. I believe it would be expensive to order locally though. Is the glass inside a frame or not? You will need the glass shop to specify pencil sanded edges on the glass as well as rounding corners if not framed. That will soften the edges and corners if glass is exposed. Hope this helps. Ed

Jim, I just remembered that you can still get (some) vista view windows from the factory. Call JC first and check for your size window. Give them your serial number, model, and year of coach. You may even have a part number stamped on the window frame. They will provide part numbers/price for what you need. You will need to pay the shipping too! Then just pick the A/S dealer of your choice and place the order. Ed

On this topic, can auto shops do slightly curved windows? As in, if I wanted to replace the vista views?
Jim,
I have a 75 an ordered a Vista View replacement from the factory. Check for current prices but mine ran about $250 for one. They are single pane and take 57 Olympics each to install

Why are we in this basket...and where are we going
Marti, That was real quick! I sure hope they were heat tempered glass as it is a safety issue more than anything else. Keep updates coming and post lots of pictures. We love pictires here on the forums. Ed

Ed, Aaron, thanks for the advice. I knew those things were really expensive if you could even get them from the factory. I was hoping there'd be a cheaper alternative.
Mine have done what most all the old double panes have done. So I will need to either replace them or go through the careful disassembly process as I've seen others do on here. I was just hoping when I saw this thread that maybe an auto glass place could sell me four of them for the price of one from Airstream.
No free lunch I guess
Aaron, didn't you have a post a while back where you'd tried to break the inner pane and did so sucessfully on another vista view or two but wound up cracking both panes on just the one? I thought I'd read an earlier posting about that...
