Vista View Window 1968 Land Yaught

All 3 windows on the right side of the door shattered due to neighbour tamping his driveway building a cement pad. We have removed the bottom flat piece and will replace the glass, also have received the correct curved glass for the larger window. The problem is the Vista View Window at the top. On inspection it appears that the window was installed and then the outside skin was place over the Vista View frame and riveted in place. Also the inside skin covers the inside frame of the Vista Window and shade. On inspection there appears to be no easy way to replace the glass. I have searched the forum and cannot find one that specifically explains how to replace it. Plenty of 70's posts but nothing specific to 1968. Would appreciate anyone who might have done this on a 1968 Airstream for assistance, Thank you.

Hi, I remember looking at those when I had my '68 all apart and thinking "how?". Not only that but the glass is curved isn't it? That piece of interior skin around that window is pretty small but there is a lot going right there. I think removing that skin is where you will need to start. I'll see if I have any pics that might help.
Good luck, Mark D

68 Land Yaught Vista View Window

Thanks for the response. This is my son's Airstream and I have a 1974 Land Yaught but this type of window is quite a bit different on mine. On mine the window frame overlaps the skin on the in/outside. Remove 50 or so rivets and it probably comes apart. But this 1968 looks like the window and frame where installed first and then the outside skin was laid over it and riveted on the bottom and the sides. Inside is the same. Any information you could provide would appreciated. We have the larger curved glass and are getting a replacement for the lower pane. If we have to remove outside and inside skins to get at this we will probably just cover the hole with aluminum and seal it. Thanks.

Well, this is the best pic I have, maybe if you blow it up you'll be able to see something. I seem to remember thinking that if I wanted to replace or reseal that glass I might get it out by removing the support pieces from the inside, maybe. Yeah, I would not taking off the outside skin, but I really doubt you'd need to.
Good luck, Mark D
