Question Spline on 1970 Overlander: HELP!

I bought a 1970 overlander in very good condition EXCEPT all screens were removed. I've replaced screens before and have the tools, so I thought it was going to be a piece of cake.

It isn't. The smallest spline available at the hardware won't go in without HUGE effort (.125"). I've tried soaping the groove. Doesn't fix the problem. I started out with aluminum screen, cause I had some on hand.

Is it possible that some specialized smaller spline is needed? Or might it be easier with some other sort of screen?

Help! I'm in Florida. It's getting warm. The mosquitoes are coming!

Tried vintagetrailersupply.com?
I lubed the track with WD40 and pushed in the spline with a wooden Popsicle type stick.

I would call around to hardware stores and see what sizes they have. I think the spline is about 3/32 or less. The True Value store near us has a range of splines from 1/16" to 1/2".
