Removing a 1971 Wing Window/ HELP

Before I bugger it up, I would like to ask some advice. I need to remove and replace my single pane 71 wing window. I have 73 and a 74 service manuals (double pane), but not a 71. The 73 and 74 manuals describe significantly different procedures.

It seems though one of the first steps should be remove the "splice bar" which is shown in figure 9 in both manuals in the "Shell" section. The written instructions mentions removing the "exterior vertical tie bar" but does not use the term "splice bar" found in the diagram. Are they the same? The written part of the 74 instructions does not say anything about either a splice bar or a tie bar.

Can someone out there tell me how to remove this vertical bar that covers the frame between the wing and center windows, hopefully so I can reuse it, and where I can get a new one if I need a new one to replace it.

Is there somone out there who has a 71 service manual who can send me a copy of the relevant instructions?

Thanks

Remove the bar any way that you can. Destroy it if necessary.

You will find it very corroded, therefore useless.

New bars are not available, but not to worry.

No one uses that bar anymore.

Simply apply enough Vulkem sealer on the backside of the complete window, and along the straight edge.

If necessary, apply additional vulkem on the vertical seam when finished. Remove the excess.

Make sure you use plenty of vulkem.

DO NOT scrimp with the sealer.

Andy

Thanx Andy,

Let's see if I got this right. Your recommendation is VULKEM, right?

Eureka, I just figured it out! The duct tape on my wing window separating the interior from the exterior is grey. Vulkem is grey. Duct tape is sticky and gooey, Vulkem is sticky and gooey. Therefore applying syllogistic logic Vulkem is liquid duct tape.

I think 72 is the first service manual. I have that - did 72 have double pane windows.
