Relocating/moving a window

Hello, has anyone relocated or moved a window? I am currently undergoing a shell off restoration of a 1963 Tradewind. It was a twin model, the two rear windows on the right and left side are very close to the back of the trailer and I would like to move them forward about 20” to accommodate my dream layout. I am not concerned with moving them so much as patching the the strip where the old opening was and having it look good. opinions and advice are appreciated. I am also considering removing every window frame to reseal, thoughts?

I moved and resized every window in a 57 Overlander. I also moved the door to the rear of the trailer and made it swing the other way. It’s doable

Like BradS said, it’s doable. I’m assuming the inside skin is out so you can buck the frame back onto the outer skin. Don’t cut any ribs. Add stringers around the new location. As far as patching, I don’t see it that noticeable if you plan on polishing the trailer. If that’s the plan, I would remove the top part of the outer skin from the left window jamb to the end cap and, top to bottom, from the awning rail to the joint right below the window jamb. Buck everything back together with modified brazier head rivets. Just a thought. Good luck

Re:window move

Thanks Bubba, when you say not to cut any ribs, do you mean to say that I should be sure to place the window between existing ribs?

When I got my 57 there multiple damaged ribs. After fixing that damage I became Confident. I cut a few ribs and I added new structure to carry the load. I’m a home builder so I have at least a working knowledge of loads. I bucked need skins over any holes and it sure seemed to work out ok. Go slow, ask questions and do your best

Yup. It's not particularly difficult. I moved one from the rear to the front on my current trailer. I replace all the skin, exterior and interior so I didn't have to make any patches. I would mention that it helps to not locate the window right on a bow as the bows are curved and the windows are not.
