Rebuilding Window Lift Handles

My window lift handles have rust and flacking chrome which I want to re plate. Has anyone had luck removing the pins and the (plastic?) slider pieces and replaced them with anything? The hinge pins will be destroyed if I removed them by how they are installed. I would rather rebuild than replace and want them looking new!

Maybe drill out the stud that’s there and go back with a proper size and length sex bolt. They have some that will tighten and bottom out while still allowing the nylon piece to rotate if needed. The only thing I can think of. Good luck, Bubba
