Really want to get rid of the duct tape!

Hi guys, We are the proud, slightly overwelmed, new owners of a 1967 Safari. I've decided "water tight" is my first order of business. Being able to remove the duct tape will make me smile! I spent some phone time yesterday afternoon with the gentlemen from Inland (supernice and helpful, by the way) and discovered that this part is no longer available. Click image for larger version

Thanks in advance for the advice. I'm sure this is the first of many pleas for guidance in this adventure!

Jennifer

common mistake for new Airstreamers.....thinking that the missing openers on that newly bought Airstream can be easily replaced....NOT! These openers on 66 - 68 Airstream windows are impossible to replace. If you find them they are very expensive and no one makes them now. If you have some in use, take them apart, clean and lubricate then reinstall. Keep looking for a salvaged 66 - 68 and beat the bushes till you find some (maybe.)
P.S. be careful when you mess with them too. Undue stress on the window will cause it to shatter. This will take you to another very expensive replacement found only on the 66 - 68 models.

Ha hah ha.... We actually have two that are rust-locked and 4 that are missing completely. We got one of the rusted ones off and are trying to unlock it. We did find something ready-made that would work that will require a little retro fitting. I'll take pictures if we decide to go that route. I'd prefer a window that opens with a retrofit latch to a window sealed shut. I'm in more of a hurry on this than I would normally be because the duct tape is making my skin crawl!
