make a clearview window for '56 flying cloud?

i've been searching for a front window for my '56 flying cloud for a long time. i think i'm going to have something fabricated and as a result have been thinking of making a clearview window, one that just is glass with the aluminum channel running along the edges.

has anyone done something like this from scratch. one of my concerns is getting the hinge system to work. does anyone have ideas to make this work or pictures of the clearview window?

disclaimer: i'm not sure i'm using the term clearview correctly or if it refers to another type of hehr window.

David, I have several Airstreams with Clearview windows at the Area. We can take a close look at them, if you want.

Could you be referring to vista view windows which were the small narrow windows above the main windows on the sides of some Airstreams. I don't know if they had them in the 50s. Clearstory windows are a row of windows above the vault in cathedral architecture. A clearview window in my case is usually associated with Windex.

i don't know when the vista views came into being but definatley not in the 50's. i think sometime in the 60's.

i'm referring to the front windows i've seen on the 60's model which are mainly glass with a small frame around. i believe there are some that are formally called "clearview" but again i'm not sure.

The term Clear View came because of the prior windows on Airstreams had the center vertical brace on them and when the new ones came along, around 1959, the view with out the bar was unobstructed, hence the name Clear View.

Now, I might be wrong here, but the 56 used the Herh Standard I think. The 59 and up was the Mark XII or clear view and in later years it was the vista view. However I think you can find your window easily if you know where to look. You need to look at SOB's. You can pick one up cheaply and take the window you need. Almost all trailers of the time used those style. You might look at some cheap canned ham and cut all the windows out and then you can sell off the rest. I know it is kind of sad to do that, but you would be putting it to good use.

I agree with Frank on this one. Some of the trailers to look for are Cree, Scotty, Shasta. Many of these used the Hehr Standard windows.
