Keep the plexi inner window or not?
Hey all...
Today, I took apart the kitchen window of my 1973 Excella 500. It's been sitting in Wildowwod, NJ for a few years unused, so I thought I'd get a start on cleaning 'er up.
Well, I removed the plexiglass inner window from the window frame, leaving the glass outer window and some horrible, nasty, dirty looking "stuff" I think may have been the dessicant. So, with my trusy razor blade, I scraped that stuff off of the plexi window and gave the whole thing a good scrubbing with kitchen detergent and a sponge.
That leaves the actual glass window. I noticed that there is some sort of film attached to the inner side of the window. Despite having the razor, that stuff would not let go. So, I just gave the window a good scrubbing, got rid of as much black stuff as I could, and re-hung the whole thing, sans plexiglass inner window.
As a result, the kitchen window looks a lot bigger than any of the other windows since it's missing the plexi inner window (which has a 1.5 inch-wide frame). There is a lot more light transmission and the window just looks a bunch "lighter" than the others.
My questions is thus: what do I do with the plexi window?
Have people had good luck not re-installing the plexi window?
Should I just give them both a very thorough cleaning and reinstall both as they were?
What are the ramifications of either course of action?
How do I get that film off the glass window?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Brian
