Hehr window glass replacement for '58.

I need to replace the glass in two side mount, opening Hehr windows. Glass size is roughly 29" x 13".

I'm not sure what kind of glass to buy and the thickness. Should I buy just regular glass or laminated or tempered? And how thick should the glass be?

A friend has some spare 1/4" laminated I can have but it looks too thick for this application.

Back in 58, Airstream used regular window glass, however I request "double strength" at the glass shop when I get them recut. Although this doesn't sound really safe, the glass panes are completely encapsulated by the aluminum frame. The other thing is that the metal screens are permanently attached to the inner frame so if there is breakage, the bits will fall outside, not in.

Mike, As Colin says the original was plain glass. I used 1/8 tempered glass for my replacements but it is more pricey. !/4 I think is too thick. Ed

I also agree with Colin (doesn't everyone?). That's what I put in my rear window about ten years ago.
