Front Window Rock Guard

Our "new" 89 Excella 29 has a severely scuffed center front window guard (a PO poorly removed red numbers).
Is this dark grey piece a simple plexi that I could replace or is it some exotic that I must buy?

First order of business is to see if you can get one of the end frame pieces off. They tend to corrode fast to the corner angles but patience may work. Once that is off you should be able to slide the current piece out and take it to a plastic shop as a template. You may have to spread the upper and lower frame pieces to aid in removing the glass.

Any sheet plastic distributor should be able to supply what you need.

Or, might I be able to simply cover it with an opaque "smoked" sheet like they use on certain window tinting. Plexi is intact with no cracks, so just want to cover the scuffed area where the numbers can be seen with shadow of them remaining. Purely aesthetic.

Take the frame apart and flip it over if the backside still looks ok.

Use UV resistant Lexan (polycarbonate). It is easier to work with, lasts longer and harder to crack.

It might be worth trying some plastic restorer like they use on headlights.
