Cover for front window. Is this factory?

I have a feeling this front window protector was added to my 61' Ambassador. Note how it is attached to the rain gutter. It appears to be missing a piece of angle at the top. It won't even close all the way. I looked and looked and can't find any good detailed pics showing how it should be mounted or to figure out if it's factory.
The fiberglass insert needs changed, but I think I may put Alum. in it. If it's not factory (Which I don't think it is), I'd consider getting rid of it, besides the holes in the rain gutter.
Thanks in advance for any help on this subject.

I think it's factory. Our '66 Safari has one just like it. It's a rock guard for the front window.

The fiberglass insert in ours cleaned up nicely with a good wash down with a water hose. Some people put plexiglas in there, usually tinted.

It's a poor copy of the factory.

Further, the factory never installed them that way.

A factory replacement that looks great is flat and solar gray in color.

Yes, that was original, either factory or deale installed.

If you want to get confused just ask a question on Airforums. All the "experts" will have their differing opinions. I would go with Inland Andy on this one.

The window rockguard is original - but installed (most likely by a dealer or PO) incorrectly as an add-on after purchase. We had one just like it on our '64. It should be installed below or instead of (in 1964) the rain gutter - not over it. See the pics below.

I LOVED that rock guard - it protected the window and provided a little shade when parked.

Inside and Out.
I can't zoom on the pics you posted...
If you would, PLEASE send them to my email..
mike@mikulskicom.com
If I could see how it's installed from the factory/properly, I can redo it. The slides and slide mounts seem correct, but as Andy said, the top appears to be a cheap copy or installed VERY wrong!
THANKS!!!

In reply to Studioman - the pictures were sent via email when requested.

For future research/reference purposes they are also a part of this thread.
